Albany, New York. You could tell we weren’t from there because how you pronounce Albany is potato to “poe taut o” if you catch my drift. That being said one of America’s oldest cities is rife with teaching opportunities.
Listen folks, we are sitting on a very thin line between generations. Our children are not being taught. Even in good schools, history is being left out.
I AM A TRUE BELIEVER IN THE THEORY THAT A SOCIETY WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE OF HISTORY (GOOD AND BAD) WILL BE DOOMED TO REPEAT A HORRIBLE CYCLE THAT EVENTUALLY LEADS TO THE END OF THAT SOCIETY.
As parents we are all very busy but taking every opportunity to teach our history to our sons and daughters is so very important.
What better way to teach your child then over a good meal.
I came across a little place that immediately sparked the conversation of knowledge in two of my sons brain (or the lack there of). Hungry and cold we all wanted to eat before leaving Albany. I hate eating at chains that have just killed the dining experience. Enter a great little find: Cafe Madison. You can find this awesome breakfast/brunch joint at 1108 Madison Avenue, Albany NY 12208.
So it simply went like this: “Dad who is Madison”.
“James Madison, one of our founding fathers to our country”.
Enter breakfast being served and bellies being filled: James Madison, born in 1751 was an American Statesmen. Meaning he was here and dug this nation from its birth. He was the fourth president from 1809 to 1817 and is hailed as “the Father of the Constitution” for his pivotal role in drafting and promoting the United States Constitution AND the Bill of Rights!
The magnitude of what these men did to sacrifice for our literal freedom today is staggering. Take every opportunity to pass this onto our youth or it will surely be wasted.
